Canoe Creek Academy K-8

Canoe Creek K-8 Academy is an e-STEM School which incorporates an Environmental component to the traditional STEM programs. The 138,963 SF facility is a state-of-the-art facility that contains 24 classrooms, administrative offices, media center, music room, art room, kitchen, and dining. The facility also includes a gymnasium, parking, basketball courts, softball, track, and soccer fields. The existing cafeteria and administration building was repurposed into 14 classrooms with a teacher planning area.

The project was designed in accordance with the School District of Oceola County’s goals of achieving High-Performance standards. The new building structure was constructed achieving an Energy Use Intensity (EUI) requirement of 25 or less and building Air Leakage (infiltration and exfiltration) maximum of 0.25 CFM/SF. Pirtle surpassed the School District’s goals achieving a lower EUI than 25. Pirtle not only looked at the existing energy consumption, but also items such as CO2 sensors and an elaborate building automation system. Pirtle’s sustainable consultant, CMTA engineered all Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing systems, including the technology design and provided valuable leadership throughout the building process.
